CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Makoto Kino
Character Canon: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
History: Makoto Kino // Sailor Jupiter
AU History:
As with the other characters from her canon, Makoto is the reincarnation of one of the warriors who fought in the war during the Savior-Era. She is, however, unaware of this, and it has no real bearing on her most recent history - that being the time from her birth to present.
Makoto's parents died several years ago - they had taken what was meant to be a short vacation together, and gone for a fly on her father's Skarmory. All three got caught in a terrible storm, were never seen again, and presumed dead. As a result, Makoto developed a fairly understandable fear of flying, and is also a bit wary around large flying-type pokemon. Since then, Makoto has lived on her own, supporting herself on her parent's savings and working part-time at a florist to cover her living expenses. She's done her best to stay in school, though she's been suspended a lot for fighting, lately. Her only steady friend as she grew up was her Mareep, Sunny, who she's had for as long as she can remember. Lately, though, she's been having better luck making friends with other people, most notably a girl her own age named Usagi, and a slightly older pair of young women named Michiru and Haruka.
Canon Personality:
As Makoto was left to fend for herself from an early age, she has learned to be independent and self-sufficient. At first glance, she displays all the hallmarks of a natural tomboy - she's incredibly athletic, possesses monster strength, and has a takes-no-shit attitude when confronted with bullies. It's rumored that Makoto has been kicked out of several schools because she kept getting into fights, but she herself never actually confirms or denies this. Considering her protective nature, however, it's fairly safe to assume that there is some truth to the rumors - her first encounter with Usagi involved protecting her from bullies via a badass smackdown.
While Makoto is naturally a kind and gentle girl, she doesn't hesitate to stand up for herself or others, and can be aggressive when the situation calls for it. She tends to put others' needs before her own, and also has a bit of a temper. Sometimes this manifests in strange ways - She once initiated a conversation with the girlfriend of the boy she liked, intending to encourage her to follow her dream and study abroad, which would (she thought) make the boy available for her own romantic overtures. When the girlfriend became emotional due to conflicting feelings - she loved her BF but she also wanted to take advantage of the study abroad opportunity - Makoto (to her own surprise) found herself yelling at the girl to stop being wishy-washy and to tell him how she felt. This obviously was not in her own best interest, but in the heat of the moment, her heart knew the right thing to do.
Because she's self-conscious about her inherit tomboyishness and her height, Makoto puts a lot of effort into pursuing more traditionally feminine hobbies. She loves the color pink, enjoys gardening, arts and crafts, romance novels, video games, shopping, and loves to cook and bake. She's very good at her hobbies, too, and is often complimented on her culinary prowess. She doesn't believe there is anything feminine about her at all, despite her cultivation of more feminine hobbies, so compliments in that direction tend to surprise her.
It seems likely that before she met Usagi, Makoto didn't have many, or possibly any, friends. The only person she ever talks about from her past is her senpai, a boy she had a crush on but who broke her heart because he wasn't attracted to "monster girls like her." This is definitely one of the major reasons for her low self-esteem, and why she puts so much effort into presenting herself as more feminine. Despite this, however, she has a tendency to develop insta-crushes on almost every boy she meets who even remotely reminds her of her senpai. A boy's looks, or his voice, or his personality, or even an article of clothing might cause her to draw a comparison.
Her friendship with Usagi began due to Usagi's persistence in pursuing it, rather than any effort on Makoto's part. Makoto responds to Usagi's friendship, and to the friendship of the other sailor senshi who she meets through Usagi, with unwavering loyalty. Despite her tough, delinquent appearance, Makoto is very gentle. She'll tease Usagi about her terrible grades, when in truth her own are no better. She's not blind to her faults, though, and is willing to laugh at herself and her own abysmal academic record.
To summarize, Makoto is a cheerful, kind-hearted girl who makes a conscious effort to balance the stereotypically masculine traits she seems to come by naturally with more stereotypically feminine hobbies. She has a somewhat short fuse, and can be scary when her temper is aroused, but there aren't actually a whole lot of things that set her off, so she doesn't actually lose her cool all that often. She's slow to judge, preferring to make up her mind based on her own observations rather than taking the word of someone else. A bit of an introvert, she doesn't quite have the knack for making friends that Usagi has, but once she's decided someone is a friend, she will defend that person with her life.
AU Deviation:
As she's grown up alongside Sunny rather than as an only child and then later as an orphan, Makoto has a little more practice making friends than she did in her OU. Not much more, but a bit! With Sunny at her side to break the proverbial ice, meeting and making small talk with strangers is easier for her, and making friends outside of the classroom setting is less challenging and awkward than she'd found it in her original canon.
Additionally, her fear of flying and of high places will be a key part of her character growth in-game, whereas in her OU (anime-verse specifically, as that is the canon I'm familiar with) there was no mention or acknowledgement of this part of her character. Depending on how player plots pan out, being forced to confront this fear may be a central part in the manifestation of her Enlightened abilities.
Canon Abilities:
As Makoto Kino:
Strength: Makoto has incredible physical strength for a girl of her height and build. She's strong enough to casually suplex a man who is taller and ostensibly heavier than she is.
Athleticism: Having practiced martial arts and sports such as basketball and ice skating, Makoto is very fit, capable of defending herself and others, and has good endurance.
Culinary: Makoto is a goddess in the kitchen.
Items:
Transformation Pen: The item that allows Makoto to transform into Sailor Jupiter. Its look changes as the series progresses, but its use is always the same.
As Sailor Jupiter:
Jupiter Power, Make Up! (and variations on that theme) - this phrase, along with her Transformation Pen, allows Makoto to transform into Sailor Jupiter. As Jupiter, her physical strength and endurance increases significantly.
Supreme Thunder: Jupiter calls electricity down from the heavens using the electric rod that extends from her tiara, and channels it towards her foe.
Sparkling Wide Pressure: Jupiter gathers electricity into a disc and hurls it at her enemy.
Jupiter Oak Evolution: Jupiter summons a column of swirling leaves and energy to slam into her opponent.
Enlightened Abilities:
Makoto is an as-of-yet unawakend God of War - Primarily Electric-type, but with secondary Grass/Fighting; her powers will awaken in-game at some point with a player-plot, at around the same time as Usagi's do.
Canonically, Jupiter relies on a handful of attacks which become more powerful as the series progresses. She's also incredibly physically strong, and is skilled at karate. All of her canon attacks are analogous to various Pokémon moves, as outlined below:
Supreme Thunder --> Thundershock --> Thunderbolt --> Thunder
Sparkling Wide Pressure --> Electro Ball
Jupiter Oak Evolution --> Razor Leaf --> Magical Leaf --> Petal Blizzard
Initial abilities upon awakening:
Thundershock
Razor Leaf
First evolution:
Thundershock becomes Thunderbolt
Electro Ball
Razor Leaf becomes Magical Leaf
Final evolution:
Thunderbolt becomes Thunder
Magical Leaf becomes Petal Blizzard
Makoto's physical attacks will begin to inflict Fighting-type damage
Starter Pokémon: A level 10 Mareep named Sunny

Q&A:
What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
Sunny is my best friend! I don't remember a time when she wasn't around. She was there for me when my parents died...I don't know how I would have gotten through that without her. Oh! More generally, I think Pokemon are best as friends and partners. I can do things for Sunny that she can't do for herself, and she can do things for me that I can't do. We're better together than apart, you know?
What do you feel your role in Union is?
Well, right now I'm just a student. So I guess I'm supposed to be learning everything I can so I can grow up to contribute to society somehow. But in the future I'd like to own a bakery or a flower shop, or even both! Flowers and sweets are good for the soul, you know? If I can keep people's spirits up with those, then I'll be happy, too.
What would you say the most important occupation is within Union?
I guess I'm probably supposed to say something like the members of the Swords of the Savior or the Rangers, huh? Those people are definitely important, and do important work, but I think the most important occupations are the ones that aren't so glamorous. Shop keepers and cooks and engineers, the people who work behind the scenes doing the dull, every day work and keep the city running so that the Rangers and Swords can do their jobs are pretty important, wouldn't you say?
What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
It's very sad and kind of romantic, in a way. The Savior loved everyone around her so much she was willing to sacrifice herself in order to keep everyone else safe. I like to think I'd be able to do that too, if I ever got in that situation.
What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
Hmm...I don't know, probably my baking ability! But really, I'm not sure. You'd have to ask Sunny, and I don't know anyone who can totally understand her. I guess...well, I try to be a good friend and caretaker. She always seems happy and content to me, so I think I'm doing pretty well on that count. I'm pretty sure she'd say I'm a good friend. ...This is kind of embarrassing! Let's move on.
A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
The human attacked first, right? Of course I'd try to help the pokemon. I can't stand bullies.
